About us and our vision

PharmAware is an organisation whose tagline "Creating professional and ethical doctor's" gives you some indication as to what we work towards. Our vision is “A world where health is never compromised by inappropriate commercial interests”. In particular it is about the conduct of the pharmaceutical industry and its influence in doctor's prescribing habits, postgraduate education and drug promotion which we believe needs to be reformed. We aim to achieve this through arranging initiatives that provide education to medical students and doctors about the issue as well as take action to ensure that this and future generations of doctor's can be safe and ethical prescriber's.

The organisation has recently undergone reform with the current version of "PharmAware" consisting of two parallel arms.

One arm consists of a student network of branches in universities across the country previously referred to as PharmAware-UK. This network exists thanks to a collaboration with Medsin-UK (www.medsin.org). MedsinUK is a national student organisation and registered charity. The student network of the organisation has been running for over almost a decade now and gone from strength to strength. We are always looking for more people to join our ranks and become part of our voice, so head over to the Contact Us page for more information.

The second arm is a network of doctor's strewn across the country that were previously members of the organisation Healthy Skepticism-UK. Long held to be the "grown-up" version of PharmAware and having broadly the same aims and objectives, it was decided that the two organisations should combine forces to work together on projects.

PharmAware in its current iteration now consists of a national committee with representatives of both former organisations as well as the members of both arms across the country. It is hoped with this new structure there can be more support and mentorship between the "adults" and the students. Furthermore, with a raucous student voice now in tow as well- hopefully we can have a greater impact with our campaigns.

The current steering committee for the organisation can be found at the "National Committee" page under the "About us" menu.
