PHARMAWARE AND HEALTHY SKEPTICISM UK MERGE

We are excited to announce the merge between PharmAware-UK and Healthy Skepticism UK. We will now be working under the banner of PharmAware.

PharmAware aims:
To educate health professionals involved in prescribing and decision-making regarding medications and medical devices about:
  • the potential risk of biased promotion of drugs/medical devices
  • the potential risk of research misconduct and publication bias
  • the ways to mitigate against these issues
To advocate for:
  • formal and informal medical education without bias from commercial companies
  • the practice of medicine using evidence-based policies and guidelines
  • high quality and transparent medical research

PharmAware is a network of concerned and motivated health professionals, students and other interested individuals who work together to improve the health of the UK population.

In order to ensure that patients get the best possible treatments and healthcare, doctors and healthcare professionals must practice medicine which is based on strong evidence. However, practicing evidence-based medicine relies on there being high quality, non-biased information available to them.

Critical information about the drugs that doctors prescribe is being withheld from patients and the medical community. Access to this knowledge can ultimately either save or end a life. Many issues can limit a healthcare professional's ability to practice evidence based medicine, including:
  • misleading pharmaceutical promotion, for example, through medical education programmes and conferences
  • lack of access to all available evidence due to non-publishing of research, or lack of access to clinical trial data

We have included lots of resources within this website to help you learn more about this problem, so please do have a look using the menu above.
